Saving Private Ryan

There is no denying the amazing accomplishment depicting the brutal struggle for possession of Omaha Beach. The horror of battle has never been replicated with such thorough attention to horror, blood and   Just as the invasion is an assault on the beach, the film is an assault on the senses‘ For an unremitting twenty minutes the water runs with blood, explosions shock soldiers into private silences creating a surreal pastiche of death,

The DD transfer presents an interesting look for Saving Private Ryan. Contrast appears slightly pumped, making the figures in the foreground stand out slightly. Backgrounds tend to lose their detail, emphasizing the importance of the individual over the whole. It’s rather strange in a war film to emphasize the individual, but that’s what Saving Private Ryan is about, sacrificing many to save one. Color is strong, yet bleached of gradation. The chromatic feeling adds to the grittiness of the film. The transfer is consistently sharp, and light output is powerful. The DTS surround is nothing short of amazing.
