Another Frank Capra madcap gem comes to DVD with the Warners release of Arsenic and Old Lace (8/29/00) . The lethal comic dose is dealt out in perfectly timed comic doses by Cary Grant 

One of Clint Eastwood's best eccentric efforts, Bronco Billy 7/18/00) struts out in its mock cowboy show garb for DVD fans from Warner. Delivered widescreen and Pan & Scan.

April 20, 2000

How about an overdose of Woody Allen. MGM is delivering a box set with 8, count 'em,  eight titles, including Manhattan, Sleeper and Bananas (7/5/00).

Kenneth Branagh's 1989 Henry V (7/18/00) is another MGM title arriving on DVD. Branagh's breakthrough film is a lively filming of the Bard's work. 

April 19, 2000

Director Barry Levinson returns to his Baltimore roots once again with another intimate remembrance of things past, Liberty Heights (6/20/00). The writer/director invests the film with humor and heart. Delivered by Warner Brothers in an anamorphic DVD with deleted footage and an introduction by Levinson.

A wonderful examination of the human spirit and a woman of unique determination, The Story of Qui Ju (6/20/00) stars wonderful Gong Li in a film directed by Chinese film wizard Zhang Yimou. The color on the Sichuan peppers drying in the sun should be a splendid treat on this DVD from Columbia.

The Third Miracle (6/13/00) was in and out of theaters so fast it would taken a miracle to have caught it before its DVD debut. Directed by Agnieszka Holland and starring Ed Harris and Ann Heche, the DVD from Columbia features audio commentary by the director.

April 14, 2000

Columbia is bringing Daytrippers(6/20/00)to DVD. This well received independent film marries Suburbia to Manhattan is a wry comic journey. 

Will the three-plus hours of The Green Mile(6/13/00)seem shorter in its DVD life. Warner is delivering the long awaited sophomore film of Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont.

April 7, 2000

Harold and Maude(6/27/00), the 1971 kinky cult film that jump started black humor in films in the seventies is coming to DVD from Paramount in an anamorphic release. About the relationship of a young man and an old woman, this takes an unconventional love story to hilarious heights.

An Audio Commentary by writer/director Anthony Minghella should shed light on all those artistic decisions that went into the making of The Talented Mr. Ripley(6/27/00). Paramount has packed the special edition DVD with lots of extras.

John Wayne, Walter Pidgeon, Roy Rogers, and Gabby Hayes star in Dark Command(5/16/00), Raoul Walsh's excellent Western about Cantrell's Raiders. Lots of action and fine photography in this Artisan released DVD

Before Michael Cimino made his reputation directing the seminal Vietnam movie The Deer Hunter, he made Thunderbolt and Lightfoot(6/13/00), a slick action flick with stars Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges and George Kennedy manning the big gun in a bold heist coming from MGM.
